Sanitation Emergencies
During regular work days and
hours our office staff will respond to District related emergencies. On Holidays and Off Hours,
messages are passed along to designated District Staff Members from the
District Office answering service. For your safety, please never
open a sewer manhole!
Our trained employees have the
safety equipment necessary to check the manholes to make sure that there are
no dangerous gases present. In addition, our manholes are very heavy; by
lifting them, you could hurt your back. The Maintenance Staff at the Water
and Sanitation Division will respond, ASAP, to your request for service. Please
call us first if you experience any of these inconveniences 760-955-9885.

Did you know
that there are some things that you can do to maintain your building sewer
and water systems?

Ask
a licensed plumber about preventative maintenance on problem sewer and
water lines.

Call
the Water and Sanitation Division if you have any questions about your sewer
and water lines.

Contact
the Water and Sanitation Division if you need to make Building Sewer
repairs. (Note: Your building
sewer is that portion from just outside the structure to the Public
Sewer).

Use
only a licensed contractor to make necessary repairs.

Consider
installing a backflow preventer to prevent flooding in your building.

Recycle
oil, paint, and other toxic materials at a recycling center.

Remember
that storm lines, streets, sidewalks, and trees in public
rights-of-way are maintained by other agencies.

Don't
plant a trees directly over a sewer or water line. Roots can block YOUR
sewer and water systems!.

Don't
dig without calling Underground Service Alert (1-800-227-2600) at
least two days prior to digging.

Don't
proceed automatically with an expensive repair, always get a second
opinion.

Don't
use an unlicensed, unknown contractor to make repairs.

Don't
forget to locate cleanout in front of building, prior to having a
stoppage.

Don't
pour anything toxic down the sewer or storm drain.

Don't
open a manhole for any reason, call the Water and Sanitation Division, we will do this for you.
